WAF Buddies (formerly known as Community Buddies) offer support and friendship to vulnerable families, who are often part of our WAF group but may need some extra help moving forward.
WAF Buddies are usually members of our WAF Community mums who have made significant steps forward in their own lives and now want to help others. They are trained and equipped to provide early intervention for families experiencing hardship, building trust-based relationships and connecting them with services and resources to resolve their problems.
This project offers significant, life changing support to families, successes include securing accommodation, accessing public funds & benefits, preventing eviction, and finding work. The WAF Buddies help to bring more hope into people’s difficult situations:
“Now I just have hope. Before I don’t even have the hope, nowhere to go, I don’t know where to start from. But when you see people surround you and they can help you … you have the hope that everything will be sorted.”
Through training and support the WAF Buddies themselves have benefited as well, they have developed new skills and found an effective way of working with women facing serious and complex situations.
